  • The parade wound through the city square to the delight of hundreds of spectators . . .
  • including those who only had to open their shutters. It was a truly memorable event for us.
  • The class was taught by Katia and her uncle Fulvio and we were joined by two other couples, both British. First we made pasta dough, . . .
  • . . . which we rolled out by hand into Pici (sticky pasta), here drying while we made the sauce in the kitchen.
  • Everyone got a chance to cook in the simple kitchen,

  • The red sauce was delicious on the pici.
  • Katya was a lot of fun.
  • And also a tomato bruschetta.

  • And after much cooking, eating, drinking, and laughter, Katia gave us our "diplomas" (cookbooks with the recipes we had made), we took a final picture and said good bye. Truly a highlight of the trip.
  • After the cooking class we explored the back roads for a while and then went into San Gimignano for our last visit.
  • We sat in the Piazza eating our take out pizza in the square under the full moon.
  • The next morning we had another delicious breakfast of juice, cereal, various cakes and sweets, and of course . . .
  • . . . a capuccino and . . .
