  • through the narrow streets . . .
  • or by Ape (that's "Ahpay"), the ubiquitous three wheeled-vehicle which is the Subaru of Tuscany . . .
  • On our way back down to the train we bought a small watercolor from this painter who had set up her easel on the steps up from the train station.
  • After a quick stop in Montorosso for lunch, we headed back to Manarola, took a nap, had dinner and then watched the moonrise over the village. Another magical day!
  • The next day we slept late and spent a good part of the morning moving to an apartment in the upper part of the village. Incredible views of the sea . . .
  • . . . and the hillside opposite . . .
  • . . . and lots of steps to get there!
  • After moving up the hill we were hungry so we walked a few steps down the street to Trattoria dal Billy, where we had one of the most memorable meals of our trip.
  • Billy's is a small trattoria perched on the hillside with several different dining levels.
  • Kathy had pici pasta (which later in the trip we learned how to make) with squash blossoms, zucchini, tomatoes, and mussels . . .
  • . . and for dessert we split a piece of Torta Caprese al Cioccolato Fondente a Mandorle -- a delicious chocolate torte.
  • Local Cinque Terre wildlife.
  • From our favorite Manarola cafe near the harbor.
  • The streets of Manarola, like most of the towns in Cinque Terre, are narrow and winding.

  • That afternoon we sat on our deck overlooking the town, watched the sunset over the village, and then walked down to dinner by the water.
  • The next day, or last full day in Cinque Terre, we decided to hike up the trail which connects Manarola and Corniglia by the top of the ridgeline.
