. . . a very popular spot for surfers.

  • A waterfall along the path.
  • Bromiliads grew in almost every tree. They get so large and heavy that they often cause the tree branch to break.
  • Even though we were there in the dry season, the rain forest was green and lush.
  • After our tour with Dulci, we were on our way back down to the central valley, heading toward the Pacific Coast.
  • After a long, bumpy, dusty ride, complete with a flat tire at night (fortunately we were within sight of a police station when it happened) we arrived at our beach destination in Dominical on the Pacific Coast. Our hotel was right on the beach.
  • Kathy and Hannah at breakfast at the Hotel Roca Verde.
  • Dominical is a small town on the coast . . .
  • . . . a very popular spot for surfers.
  • Kathy and Hannah shopping in the village of Dominical.
  • The beach at our hotel at sunset.
  • Surfer girl Hannah.
  • Along this part of the Pacific coast the rain forest comes right down to the ocean.
  • Sunset at Dominical.
  • More sunset at Dominical.
  • That night we had a wonderful meal -- probably our best in Costa Rica - at the Hotel Cuna del Angel (wings of the angel) just south of Dominical.
  • The sun queen at the beach at Marine Ballena National Park the next day. Wide, flat beach . . .
  • . . . we were almost the only ones there. Water temp about 80 degrees. Air temp about 90 degrees.
  • The sand crabs kept us company.
  • That afternoon we headed to Hacienda Baru, an ecolodge about a mile north of Dominical, for our night in the jungle. A three-toed sloth greeted us at the beginning of our hike.
  • Our guide, Danny, was very knowledgeable -- and very patient as he brought the rain forest alive for us.
